Hi Everyone!
I am in Honduras now and will be here for the next 6 months. Life is going to be challenging here. I don't have many of the basic things we are used like hot water (sometimes we don't have water at all) or a washing machine. It is so hard to wash clothes on a board! I am teaching 2nd grade at a bilingual school. My students should, but don't, know much English. Their behavior is terrible. We have A LOT to work on. We have hardly any supplies for the classroom. We don't even have crayons or markers. I wasn't able to bring Kaya with me because I just didn't have any room. It's just as well because she would get really dirty here, it is so dusty from the dirt roads. I hope everyone is well probably won't post much in the next few months, but I will try. It is good to "talk" to people from "home". Here is the school's website: www.cofradiaschool.com

Steph, did you see the post on the day you left wishing you a safe journey? Gosh, I knew that the conditions were terrible compared to here but I didn't think about how dirty it was. Miguel(Kayli's Papi) told me that nobody wears white sneakers over there because of the dirt roads. His parents just got electricity a little over a year ago. We all had to chip in to pay for it. They still don't have a phone and have to travel to Tegucigalpa to call us. I pray that you are able to reach these children and help them learn so they can have a chance at a good life. Do you speak Spanish? I couldn't imagine trying to teach children who don't understand what you're saying. Good luck, Stephanie. Stay strong and you know you can count on us to give you moral support.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thank you so much for your kind words. I did not see that post, but I will try to search for it. The computer here is so slow so it might take too long to find it. The children are beautiful, but they will be a challenge. We in the US are so lucky with what we have.

Hello Stephanie...What a great and wonderful thing you are doing. I wish you the best of luck with your students! I just read thru the schools website and I almost felt like I was reading the beginning pages of another great adventure with Jess. We just read her book the other night.

I look forward to reading your other post in the future and hearing about all the experiences with "your kids".

Good Luck,

Sharon

Thank you Ashley's Mommy for reposting that. Thank you all for you encouragement. I am a bit homesick and that makes it harder to adjust. I will try to continue to post here since it makes me feel a bit better.

Hi Stephanie, I'm relatively new here, so I don't think we've talked before. I just read over the information on the link you provided, and I really admire the sacrifices you're making to help the children have better futures. I know it might be rough at first, but I think this is an experience you'll cherish and feel good about for the rest of your life. We'll be thinking of you and hoping for the best.
